Empowering the Citizens of Berlin
As the Town Council Majority, We Pledge to
Open Communications
Re-establish regular Councilmen office hours
Televise town council meetings
Enhance the town website to be more dynamic, interactive and informational
Invite feedback on how to improve town services
Regularly publish a town scorecard highlighting the achievement level of town projects and goals
Economic Development
Work to develop a pedestrian friendly downtown similar to Evergreen Walk in South Windsor and Somerset Square in Glastonbury
Balance commercial development with need for open space
Publish annual achievement levels toward the 2003 Plan of Conservation and Development Goals in conjunction with the Economic Development and Planning and Zoning Commissions
Town Computer Infrastructure
Implement the network infrastructure and communication upgrade portions of the Technology Plan for town, school, police and fire services
Spending & Taxes
Work to combine town and school board purchasing functions to maximize savings
Increase the use of best practices to optimize town efficiency (low cost) and effectiveness (high value)
Provide full monthly disclosure to our citizens of all Berlin budgeted and non-budgeted spending
Invite more citizen input on which projects should be bonded by providing full summary of potential financial impacts
Present bonding projects exceeding $1M for citizen approval by automatic referendum
Work to maintain a stable tax rate to ensure that Berlin attracts the most desirable developments
Community Interest
Evaluate the cost, benefits and priority of community interest in expanding recreational facilities (Community Center, pool, ball fields, skateboard park and others)
Construct the Animal Shelter working with FOBAC to work through obstacles
Work to resolve the Bicentennial Park access and parking issues
Ensure there is readily accessible and easily understood information on the pros, cons and cost of future school construction
